PCE Annual Report for the year ended December 2024
Welcome to the Peria Christian Education Inc 2025 AGM. On behalf of your Proprietor Board, it is my pleasure to bring you this annual report for the year ended December 2024. It has been an exciting time for the Proprietor Board, as for the first time in the schools history, we reached a full roll of students which activated the closure of the school roll, and the placement of students onto a waiting list for enrolment. This triggered a flurry of activity by the Board as we made plans to increase the school roll cap to 175 or more and increase the teaching year level from year 8 to year 10.
School roll cap and teaching year level increase: Following advice received early in 2024, the Board contacted the Ministry of Education to advise them of our roll situation and plans. The staff at MOE have been very helpful, providing support and advice, and helping develop a path to follow. Architects and other contractors were engaged, the consent process was initiated and a loan was arranged with the bank. Close to year end a second hand two classroom block in good condition became available, and with frantic activity over the Christmas period the Board was able to secure it for relocation onto the school site.
Property development projects for 2024: While scheduled for 2023, painting of all school rooves was carried out early 2024, and other scheduled work included installation of a new ventilation system in the toilets between rooms 1 and 2, and work on the cross and dove artwork above the library double doors was completed and rehung.
PCE Finances – A copy of the audited PCE financial performance report is available for viewing here. PCE recorded a surplus for 2024 of $134,727, increasing accumulated funds including property at book value to $1,016,935. With cash in the bank of $444,740, PCE is well placed financially to continue developing and improving Matamata Christian School.
Kid on the Rock Foundation – The Kid on the Rock Foundation is a registered charitable Trust that was set up independent of PCE, to support families and grow Christian education in and around Matamata. Funds are raised primarily through donations. For more information visit https://www.kidontherock.co.nz/ In 2024, through sponsorships totaling $2,216.00, 7 children from 3 families were assisted to attend Matamata Christian School.
Looking forward: On the 5th March 2025 the MOE signed off the roll increase from 120 to 150, subject to a classroom being onsite and ready for use. The two classroom block should be in place and in service by the middle of term 2. The work continues for the teaching year level increase and increase roll to 175. More classrooms are being sourced, and we anticipate starting teaching year level 9 at the start of 2026.
In conclusion, We are thankful to God for what has been achieved throughout the year, and we are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Proprietor Board members and numerous others who have given freely of their time, talents and treasures for the betterment of the school. Your ongoing support and prayers are much appreciated.
I move the adoption of this report for the year ended December 2024
Kobus Englebrecht
Chairman of the Proprietor Board
